Really enigmatic . Strange . Almost absurd. The In Vain return with their progressive and avant-garde death metal , and they do it with a disc once more complex , elaborate, technical but pretty damn clear, direct and effective. An hour of music based on melodic death metal that is influenced by the Norwegian black metal , giving rise to something really special . On this basis, the In Vain build complex concepts , diverse , including acoustic passages , melodic , folk , almost touching a style that reminds me of The Shining, not so much for musical similarity , but because of the compositional imagination that unites these two bands. The longer pieces are developed through complex and innovative musical paths , which, however , never lose the element of entertainment , offering great insights to the listeners more attentive, but also pure musical pleasure listening to a less concentrated . There are pieces of very well done , as the final " Murmuring Floating on the Tide" , monumental, complex , long ( 9:17 ) and capable of integrating times extremely violent and painful , with moments of apparent peace and tranquility, also highlighted by a beautiful saxophone. " Times Of Yore " is disturbing : its main riff definitely geared to blackned death metal , but the piece evolves with you concepts decadent epic , integrating melody and brutality with sublime perfection. " Culmination of the Enigma " incorporates in its violence a spoken interlude ( in Norwegian) of absolute effect , which helps to drag the listener in the direction of the piece that turns out to be a masterpiece , as it is fantastic for similar reasons the ' epic ' Hymne til Havet " where the extensive use of various items makes the piece presents wonderful feelings . Exciting ideas incorporated in the performance of " Rise Against ", another song of the total effect that can integrate folk moments with absolute brutality. In support of these valuable content is rushed production curated by Jens Bogren ( Opeth , Soilwork , Borknagar ) which is just perfect , and manages to bring out the optimum sound of the band , providing the listener an even more profound and complete. The judgment of a band like In Vain is always a difficult thing and strictly personal. When a band offers things of this complexity , the comparison with the past is done almost automatically , while critics always point the finger at the thin line that divides the identification of a style and an artistic personality from the lowering of the evolutionary curve . The questions are always the same : they have overcome or avoided taking risks? They persevered on a line of creative development at any cost, or they preferred to rework the existing and proven levels of composition ? It 's just a technical or there is a soul in this album ? I will gladly leave questions unanswered , without my answers , which do not exist. Questions that conflict with my personal question is not , by any chance , possible that the In Vain have simply created a wonderful disc , to be enjoyed in its entirety , able to convey emotions and feelings ? The criticism at all costs is deleterious . Indulge , and I would like to emphasize the concept of abandonment, listening to " aenigma ." Let absorb vibrations and emotions. Make it your own . Breathe it , let it circulate in the veins . The answers will come from the sun.
