Thea Gilmore is an English lass, with a versatile breathy voice who writes her own music. As a indie / alternative / rock album, Burning Dorothy is quite impressive. As a debut album from a 20 year old, it's stunning. These are not pop hits you dance to, they're intelligently written, often sarcastic songs with a sharp edge, both lyrically and musically. Thea's later albums have tamed down, especially since becoming a mother, so this is the one to get if you're in the mood for something a bit more aggressive.
