For anyone who is a fan of Led Zep this album is a must- for anyone who was at the concert it is mandatory and for those who wanted to be at the concert this is the next best thing. So having established that this is a must for Led Zep fans the question remains who else will it appeal to. This is not music that is immediately accessible, that is for certain and if you are unfamiliar with the repertoire of this iconic band it will take a while for you to understand what they are about. When you get it-and get it you will the connection to almost everything that follows becomes clear. The DNA in this music can be traced right through so that the 'Nirvana' and the 'Foo-Fighters' to list obvious examples.in terms of the content of 'Celebration Day' it has to be conceded that the years have taken their toll. The band does a competent job, the song selection is both appropriate and satisfying for the legions of fans but, and it is a big but, the content does not compare to some more modern material. Some bands age well, AC/DC is an obvious example but the catalogue for Led Zep seems a little bit creaky and even twee at times. Tracks like 'Kashmir' have not aged well but iconic anthems like 'Whole lotta love' and 'Stairway to Heaven' are simply part of mainstream popular culture and are still superb. If you are a Led Zep fan then this is for you. If you aren't a fan it is worth listening to simply as an exercise in understanding modern music.
