This is such a great Christmas album, it caught me completely by surprise. Weezer is, of course, one of the biggest alt rock bands in the world. Over the course of twenty years, they have developed a very distinctive, recognizable sound. They were putting together songs as part of an iPhone game titled, "Christmas With Weezer", but demand for the tracks was so great that they put them together for an EP.

A lot of modern acts sort of hedge their bets when asked to Christmas songs, choosing to do noon-secular songs. But Weezer tends to do things differently, and they choose six true Carols to play. They are all basically classic arrangements; they sound just like Weezer came to your church one day and joined in. This is something that most acts just do not do anymore, they generally have to put their own spin on things. But it's enough to have Rivers Cuomo's distinctive vocals and guitar sound throughout the song, backed by Scott Shriner and Brian Bell's bass and rhythm guitar and Patrick Wilson's drumming.

It's tough to pick one song over another here, it will come down to which is your favorite Christmas Carol, but "Silent Night" is probably my personal favorite. Like the rest, it's a traditional arrangement, but it's generally a very quiet song. Weezer's sound adds a sort of volume that you generally don't hear in the song, even moreso than the rest. But there is not a bad song here, it's a great collection. If you like modern rock, and you like Christmas songs, there is no reason for you not to love this EP.
