The flaming lips found their sound again with Embryonic. This pastiche of their early sounds delves into poetic madness and trippy horror lyrics that are over haunting electric processed sounds. It feels as though the band locked themselves in isolation and the results are free form thoughts and lucid moments of self observation.

The album as a whole is deep and multi-layered. I did not like it the first time through but thankfully gave it a few more listens. The tracks are raw and sound unpolished allowed to exist as temporary moments. Embryonic captures the adventurous side of the lips that was notoriously absent in their mystics album.
