This album is the pinnacle of Steely Dan's achievement. Many would say Aja is their greatest album but, for me, Gaucho is the high point of a stunning career. It is as near perfection as any band could reach, seamlessly combining rock, funk and jazz with a seemingly effortless groove. Although, as any Steely Dan fan will know, the making of the album would have been anything but effortless, with careful attention being paid to every minor detail. My only criticism is that it is far too short - but, then again, there are no 'filler' tracks. The classics include Babylon Sisters, Hey Nineteen, Time Out Of Mind, Glamour Profession . . . I defy anyone with a soul not to love it.
