Goby Jónsi

Jonsi Birgisson, the name probably doesn't ring a bell. For those who know Sigur RÓs, the voice might ring a couple of them. Sigur RÓs have written some of the songs that people will talk about for years and years to come. They are the kings of ambience and drama, seeing them perform live is supposed to be quite an experience. JÓnsi is an entirely different entity though, the tracks are sung in English rather than Icelandic or hopelandic, a language made up by the band. The vocals used on both bands are so distinctive that it is hardly distinguishable. When it comes to the music side JÓnsi does not disappoint, the same swirling instrumentals are seen throughout the album with clicks and whirs that could put Brian Eno to shame. The track 'Go Do' is set at the perfect pace with a motivational flute piece intertwined with a brilliant vocal piece created by the band in the intro. A brilliant album, a must have!
