Bat For Lashes A.K.A Natasha Khan newest single is the pretty "Laura." Bat For Lashes has released two albums: 2006's solid "Fur And Gold" and 2009's wonderful "Two Suns". Natasha is a multi-instrumentalist who plays the piano, bass, guitar and auto-harp. Her upcoming album is called "The Haunted Man" and she said this of it "I really wanted to strip things back in honour of women like Patti Smith; just these raw, honest women. I had no make-up on, it's just me and my haunted man!" That she does strip things back like on the cover of the album where she wears no shirt but also on the music. "Laura" consists just of Natasha's voice, piano and some backing strings. It sounds a lot more Tori Amos than Patti Smith which is no bad thing. Although the song is beautiful it is almost too bright to look at and i eventually find my mind wandering away. This track is definetly not an improvement over 2009's "Daniel", it sounds more like "Fur and Gold" era Bat For Lashes. Maybe she is looking to the past for inspiration because it has dried up or maybe i have no idea but it does sound like something of a step back from "Two Suns". Hopefully this single isn't a taste of what the whole upcoming album will be like.
