Taken from the 1989 smash hit album "Disintegration", 'Lovesong' was one of The Cure's most commercially successful single. The song is utterly beautiful! Aptly titled it is the perfect love song, it is full of sincerity and emotion and doesn't sound sappy or forced. Robert Smith's somewhat bumbling voice further adds to the power and feeling of the song. In addition, the lyrics vagueness in terms of who the song is for leaves it open to be a song about any kind of love.

What has perhaps been overlooked though is the quality of the b-sides. '2 late' is a sweet yet melancholy song that brings out the feeling of loss, and the following emptiness and loneliness. 'Fear of ghosts' is a deep atmospherically epic. Moving along slowly it allows all the dark and chilling feelings to the truly felt and absorbed. For many other bands these two tracks would be major album highlights, but for The Cure, they didn't even make the cut for the album!

This is one of those singles that are worth getting in addition to the album as it offers so much that you wouldn't otherwise get to hear.
