Machine Head started a Heavy Metal revolution, many bands coming out of England and Europe during the 80's would claim Deep Purple as a big influence and This album as the one that gave them the inspiration. Smoke On the Water -being the quintessential song, with that distinctive hard rock riff that every future guitarist wanted to play(including me) just like Ritchie Blackmore and Ian Gillan's great rock vocals and the story that the song was based on made this one great song, This was at the Grand hotel in Monteux Switzerland, it was during a Frank Zappa & The Mothers concert that it burnt down during the show. With songs like- Maybe I'm A Leo- and-Pictures Of Home - with that thumping grinding organ that only Jon Lord could play and the other band members made these two songs really rock. The other legendary tracks which are two of my favorites are the great Metal driving down the rock and roll road is -Highway Star- the band makes you feel like you are on tough and tumble ride, then we have -Space Truckin'- I love this song, Ian's vocals are at his best this guy has such range and great rock and roll scream. This is one power packed album with non stop rocking metal , then we also have -Lazy - with its almost lazy kind of rhythm and Jon Lords Keyboards poping along with Ritchie's great riffs this song really rocks you. With the Anniversary Edition you get the Re-mixed tracks and Remasters plus extra rare tracks, this is great heavy rock at its best and this why they laid claim to the loudest band in the world and believe me I seen them live in their heyday in the 70s and they weren't joking, Black Sabbath as a close second place. Please do yourself a favor and get the whole album it is a wonderful rock and roll trip.
