The band returned after a disinterested and roughly put tougher ,"Lights and Sounds," album in 2005. Ryan Key, the lead vocalist came Into this album trying to relay a message of hope and moving forward. The album deals with fighting through adversity, growing up, while not looking past your decisions but accepting them.

Key dealt with the loses of two former bandmates, Ben Harper and Scott Shad during the recording of the album. While, Harper left the band to work on his label, Shad lost his life in a tragic accident. There is evidence that the song, "Shadows and Regrets," is about their time together. Despite some sad moments and heart-melting lyrics. Paper Walls delivers a powerful message in their two hit singles, "Fighting," and "Light up the Sky." Both songs inspire and individual that even though you may not be in a great place personally or emotionally there's always something to fight for, or look forward to.

This album delivers a message, it's packed with old school "Ocean Avenue," while delving into more promenant, tougher issues. Key went through a tough time in 2006 and it shows by the words in his songs. Arguably the best CD in the Yellowcard collection, while being the most honest album of them all
