Just as a brief introduction: Justin Bieber was a Canadian kid with a single mother barely into her adulthood. He played acoustic cover songs on the guitar (he’s a lefty-not bad) and recorded them on YouTube. He then met his future producer, Usher, on a street corner, and his fame started the second time Usher met him. He released two EPs, My World and My World 2.0, and one acoustic CD, My Worlds Acoustic. His most recent single, Pray, is only featured on the Acoustic album, and is otherwise just a single. It may be featured on a new CD (if he even gets that far).
The new single, Pray, is about how he cannot live his life without knowing that people are fighting, dying, and in poverty. What does he do? He does what most Christians say to do: he prays. There are two problems with these statements: first, he probably doesn’t worry about that with his fame and money, as he’s living the American Dream. Every other song written by him is about love. Second, if he does worry about the people much less fortunate as him, with all of his money, he could help them himself and donate money to a cause. Praying doesn’t make any difference in anything, and the same probability of a positive outcome exists without praying. He is even seen in the music video as helping out others to make him follow that criteria, even though the song is completely different. He started to stray away from the love themes here, and it didn’t work.
The lyrics in this song are entirely mediocre, saying that he prays for things to be better. He repeats the chorus here, and it is really repetitive, but not as repetitive as baby (I close my eyes, and I can see a better day, I close my eyes and pray. I close my eyes and I can see a better day, I close my eyes and pray.) Overall a really bad song, and I highly dislike it.
