Revival by Bellowhead proved to be the final album released by the folk supergroup before their separation in 2016 - and in my mind - the best.

While it features the obligatory Bellowhead 'experimental' elements (I can't think of a better way to describe the bizarre "Moon Kittens" for example), the album also contains the typical bold, strong, almost symphonic folk anthems that the band have become known for.

In the world of folk music, songs, stories and sea shanties are passed down through the generations, with a tweaking of words here, and a change of melody there. New versions of old songs can feel they have life breathed back into them.
What Bellowhead have is the amazing ability to not just breathe new life into old songs, but construct and invent exciting and innovative creations from the musical elements lying around them.

Ancient words and traditional melodies are welded together with big-band brass, intense rhythm, harmonious vocals, and sheer passion to create a sound quite unlike anything else. What is not lost however is the great folk tradition of passing down stories, wisdom and emotion through the years.

From the exhilarating "Let Her Run" and "Roll Alabama" to the more traditional-sounding "Gosport Nancy" or "Let Union Be", mixed with the band's take on others' songs such as "I Want To See The Bright Lights Tonight", this album weaves its way from beginning to end fully illustrating the scope and variety of Bellowhead's amazing sound.
