This was my very first Stones album as a kid. I listened to my tape until it wore out. Years later, I have had more of their music to consider, more of their live albums to consider, and a more informed musical palate to draw from, so I am in a better position to recommend this album.

The show was from 1981, shortly after "Start Me Up" hit the charts. Live albums were not what they would become, and so this is just a single album's worth of music. The setlist is fairly predictable, giving classics such as "Let's Spend the Night Together", "Satisfaction" and "Under My Thumb". Some fun additions include "Twenty Flight Rock" and "Going to a Go-Go"; you might not get these songs at today's shows, and they provide a welcome tonal change to this show.

Giving this an objective listen, the sound quality has been retouched, but still is not fantastic. It's just poor enough that non-audiophiles like myself will notice. It wouldn't be that much of an issue if not for the quality of the performance itself. It feels at times as if they are rushing through it, like they are just trying to get through certain songs..."Shattered" and even "Satisfaction" are the biggest culprits here, their performances suffer here.

But these ARE the Stones, and it's tough to have a really bad recording of such legends. "Time Is On My Side" sounds great, "Just My Imagination" sounds like they are having a blast. This was the early days of "Start Me Up", and they were developing it into a real showstopper.

Overall, if you are looking for your first Stones Live set, you have many, many other options that would better fit the bill. This is more of collector's piece at this point. It's not a bad set, but it feels below their standards, and will ultimately leave you wanting. Take a look at their other live sets, then come back to this one last...it's not without it's charm, but you can do better.
