While New Street Adventure's second studio album, Stubborn Sons possesses a fresher feel to it than their seminal work; it manages to maintain the charm of their debut release by remaining true to their soulful roots.
If you were to fuse the easy listening element of the Style Council's sound with the energy of something more contemporary like Hard-Fi, a recording like Stubborn Sons would be the result.

Each track has it's own smooth, yet vibrant melodies, with clever basslines and at times, humourous lyrics: "Having an opinion's fine as long as it's the same as mine" is one such offering from the albums opener.

However, the thing that is truly remarkable about Stubborn Sons is that every track has its own unique little quirks, and no two of them sound the same. The opening song "What's so good about happiness?" is funky, catchy and energetic, while "Smooth talker" has a more soul/blues vibe to it. "Something more than this" potentially has a lot of commercial appeal, and the closing track "Can't we just be friends?" is an acoustic, peaceful conclusion to this release.

The record flows well, the running order is spot on and it's one which can be listened to without the need to skip any tracks. Here is a band with a lot of potential; watch this space.
