Aphex Twin returns from a nearly decade long hiatus with his most accessible album yet. While most of his releases are famously an acquired taste to most, Syro, while still definitely trademark Richard D. James programming, delivers straightforward melodies with palatable beats. Opener Minipops 67 sets the mood with a radio-friendly groove and interesting vocal patterns, followed by the ten and a half minute long textural opus, XMAS_EVET10. These set the stage for like-minded tracks like Produk 29, CIRCLONT6A, and CIRCLONT14. While this album is a technical marvel throughout, James simplifies things with the rave banger 180db_, and closes the album out with the beautiful piano arrangement, Aisatsana. Any fan of electronic music or curious about Aphex Twin needs this album.
