Dare I say Asphyx invented death/doom metal? Perhaps not, but they are one of the best bands out there doing it. The Rack is their debut album and it is chocked full of heavy, slow riffs, low tuned, and deep growling vocals. All of these items add up to some excellent metal. It's not just death doom though because these guys mix it up with fast, mid, and slow tempos. Old school death metal fans as well as modern death metal fans would enjoy Asphyx for sure. The opening instrumental track leads us into Vermins which just sets the tone and mood for the album. The Sickening Dwell keeps things going for you mid way through till we finally get to The Rack which is just 9 minutes of some of the best death/doom metal in my opinion. I would definitely tell anyone to check this album out because it's one of the best in the genre.
