Released originally in 1970, The Twelve Dreams Of Dr. Sardonicus is the 4th and final LP of the original lineup of the esoteric California group Spirit. Led by primary songwriters Randy California (lead vocals, guitar) and Jay Ferguson (lead vocals/keyboards) this LP is certainly the group's best effort. It's quite sad that the group couldn't get past it's differences to make another masterpiece such as this. Rounding out the rest of the group is John Locke (keyboards) Mark Andes (bass guitar) and Ed Cassidy (drums).

Randy California 's "Nature's Way" is an instantly likable minor key anthem; spewing concerns of ecology and matters of Mother Nature. "Love Has Found A Way" is a wonderful trippy and jazzy pop tune, that really brings out the best in California with its major and minor chord structure.

Jay Ferguson's "Mr. Skin" is an infectious R&B grooved, Traffic-like song with a great saxophone solo in the middle bridge section. "Morning Will Come" is the song that should have been a major hit. "Animal Zoo" is a goofy, infectious pop number which borders on nursery rhyme quality.

The bonus tracks here are great and well worth the price of this expanded edition.

This is a must LP for any rock enthusiast. After this LP, Andes and Ferguson formed the semi successful Jo Jo Gunne and Spirit continued on with less success.
