So here am I, a newly minted Oasis fan who's slowly venturing further into the British music scene. Especially looking out for groups that both inspired Oasis and others that were inspired BY them. Kasabian is in the latter group. They're an indie/electronica rock group from Leicester, formed in 1997 and sometimes compared to Oasis and an earlier British pop group, The Stone Roses.

This single, "Underdog", was written by bandmember Sergio Pizzorno is the opening track from Kasabian's third studio album, "West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum". I'm finding this album easy to get into as a newcomer to Kasabian's music. Each track is supposed to represent an inmate at the asylum. The song is tough but in an upbeat and mostly positive way; the underdog's going keep fighting and, however many time's he's lost, hold his head high and "keep [himself] riding on this train". Nothing too deep in the lyrics IMO, it's just a good pounding song that gets you feeling pumped up. Some nice slower synthetic effects in the last few seconds too.

Four stars for this single because I don't like the Sasha remixes, too long and heavy, honestly couldn't listen to the whole thing (10 1/2 minutes?? no thanks). So I'm sticking to the album version of "Underdog" - a quality track from a great British band whose music I look forward to enjoying for a while to come. Kasabian, I'm intrigued.
