I love that this 7 songs, but it packs the punch of a full length album. There isn't a single wasted moment on this tracklist anywhere. Not only does At the drive in bring their epic blend of patient aggression, but they also refine it in a way that would lead to their album relationship of command which would come after. This album lays the foundation on which their next album was built. And while this album feels more polished than relationship of command, it is just as raw and cryptic. Given that this was the turning point in the bands work as well as the foundation of their future work, I would say this is probably the bands most important release.

I would submit that at the drive in is probably on the beat post hardcore bands out there and that their work stands the test of time in ways that other bands albums do not. It is one thing for an album to be well received when it is released, it is another to be well revived nearly 30 years later. And that alone says a lot about the time and effort that went into this album.
