We are rising is the exciting follow up to the first Son lux project at war with walls and mazes. It has the same qualities and influences that are present in its predecessor but it is in many ways an point of growth and evolution for the project. This album is interesting because it has the same dark and brooding nature of Ryans first album but it manages to feel lighter from a standpoint of emotional weight. This is in a way a bad thing. It shows that the creative process that Son Lux goes through transcends just emotional aspects and layers. Their signature sound is based on their skill in writing and does not rely on emotion to make it larger than what it is. They are not writing emotionally, they are putting their emotions into what they write.

While that may sound strange, it makes a huge difference because they are challenging themselves as musicians and also pushing themselves to make the best music they can make. This leads to ideas that may have otherwise gone unexplored. Putting emotion into a song can often be much more profound that writing the songs using the emotions. And I think son lux does a great job of not filtering their creativity through an emotional lense but rather allowing their music to exist and then interpreting it after the fact.
