The Dear Hunter have in their short career already made a few true masterpieces. "Act II" is arguably the best out of the traditional albums, as nothing really touches the perfection of "The Color Spectrum", with some of the most hauntingly beautiful rock arrangements ever set to digital tape. The Dear Hunter lead us on a musical journey that is lyrically completely engrossing as well. This is an album meant to be understood as such, as well as within the context of the overarching Dear Hunter story, but there are several standout songs. "Red Hands" is a near 6 minute love letter and is both my favorite song of all time and the most passionate plea I have ever heard in music. "The Lake and the River" and "The Church and The Dime" are both sweeping celebrations of the use of effective song dynamics with crescendos that rise triumphantly and leave enough breathing room to enjoy their power. It's a very long album, but "Act II" is a work of art that simply demands to be enjoyed as a whole. I give The Dear Hunter's "Act II" my highest recommendation. It is genius.
