For those who love Kind of Blue (and who doesn't?) this is the essential Coltrane album. Or rather, these are two essential Coltrane albums- Blue Trane and Traneing In - plus half of an excellent album called "Baritones and French Horns" by the Prestige All Stars, of which Coltrane was a side man. It was reissued after Coltrane left Prestige for Atlantic Records. Coltrane is in perfect form here, soaring as he does, but without escaping the bounds of melodic invention as he eventually came to do. Interestingly, these albums come from different recording businesses - Blue Note and Presitge, the only album I can think of like it.
