China Dollby The Hiders

This song is really chill. Like standing in front the freezer chill. Like north pole without a jacket chill. Like living in an igloo chill. I never even knew what a chill song was until I heard this. It's frightening how chill this is. I hope someday I can aspire to this level of chillness.

But in all seriousness this is a really good release. It shows that the hiders are not playing around and they know exactley what sound they are going for and how to get there. It's evident that they have studied and learned from the grateful dead and they payed them alot of respect in this cover. At the same time, they made it thier own and really showed themselves to be capable and talented muscisians.

If you are a Grateful Dead fan, this could become one of your favorite covers songs. I personally hadn't heard this band before but what a find! They keep the arrangement in a similar fashion but slow it down just a bit, and that gives the band an opportunity to show off their beautiful and tasteful playing. At times it feels like 20 people having a go at their instruments but nobody is trying to stand out and it falls together quite well. The guitar solo toward the end is great and this just makes me want to play the whole t=of the Hiders catalogue. The duo vocals are wonderfully placed in the high register and give the feel of Neil Young covering the song. Eight minute breezes by in no time.
