Jamie Lidell gets much rougher and grungier with "Comapss" compared to his previous albums "JIM" and "Multiply". Where the smooth, well-engineered sounds of his R&B influences and Stevie Wonder vocals used to be we hear a lot of influence from the ungroomed sounds of Grizzly Bear and other recent indie rock/art rock outfits. But not to worry, Jamie Lidell's gorgeous voice and penchant for dance rhythms and retro soul lyrics are as great as ever. This is the kind of album you have to be careful about listening to while driving, you might just get a speeding ticket! Overall I highly recommend it as a star-studded album (Feist and other musical legends appear) that captures Jamie's signature charm with an added dose of grunge. Just the right edge to those sweet singing sounds!
