This was Sammy Kershaw's first CD, and it still holds up well. You get ten great songs on this CD. Many of these songs on on several of his greatest hits CD. Those deserve to be there.
To start with, we get a great song in "Real Old-Fashioned Broken Heart." If you enjoy classic country, you'll enjoy this song. There's nothing fancy about this song. It's just a simple classic country style song that I enjoy quite a lot.
Next we have one of the songs that appear on his greatest hits CD as well as here. "Don't Go Near The Water" deserves its place among the greatest of his songs. I enjoy the violin during the song. It is an upbeat song that I always enjoy when it comes on.
"I Buy Her Roses" is next with its beautiful lyrics. I wasn't familiar with this song, but it has great lyrics. A simple song, but it is wonderful. Simple need not be a bad thing.
Another one of Sammy's classics is next. "Cadillac Style" is a song worthy of one of his great songs. A catchy tune with great lyrics and music.
"Kickin' In" was another song I wasn't familiar with, but proved itself worthy. It is a classic country style song that is well done. Sammy does this style wonderfully.
"What Am I Worth" is a cover of the George Jones song. If you aren't listening close enough, you probably would think it was George Jones doing the singing. Sammy Kershaw can sing any George Jones song well. His does great justice to this one. If you enjoy George Jones, you'll probably want to get the tribute album that Sammy Kershaw did, "Do You Know Me? A Tribute To George Jones."
"Yard Sale" comes next. It is another one of Sammy's great songs that appears on many greatest hits CD. It's songs like this that got me listening to country music. I enjoy his vocal talents in this song.
"Anywhere But Here" is next. It is another song that is one of his songs that appears on several of his greatest hits CD. It's a fast tempo song that deserves its' greatness. It is wonderfully done.
"Every Third Monday" is a great song. It's a slow song with great music to support the great lyrics. Another classic country style song.
"Harbor For A Lonely Heart" closes out the CD. It's a moderate tempo song that has great music and great lyrics. It's a good song to end the CD.
Almost half of the songs on Sammy Kershaw's debut CD make it onto his greatest hits CD's. That's not a bad thing. I think it shows his amazing talent as a singer. He put out a superb debut CD, and Sammy has managed to keep the pace up with the CD's that he has made since this CD. "Don't Go Near The Water" is a CD worthy of anyone's purchase.
