I'm giving Evinta 3 stars simply because mp3 Caprice has it (3 disc version) and it's in 320 bit mp3...now the rest of the story...
My Dying Bride is an awsome goth/doom/death metal band from Great Britain. I thoroughly enjoy all of their materiel except for Evinta and here's why. Every band at some point in their career will decide to experiment with their sound or just try something new all together. My Dying Bride did that here, but they went the route of trying something new all together. Listeners might be better prepared had they offered a taste of this on a previous album or an EP, but that didn't happen. They just went all in with this and I don't know of anyone that really enjoys Evinta.
My Dying Bride went with an orchestra and the vocals are are clean. These aren't necessarily bad things when done correctly, but what we hear on this album is just a very long and daunting attempt at a depressing opera. There's only a few songs on each album, but each one is 45 minutes + long. I feel this would sound completely different if they would have incorporated the orchestra in with their regular doomy guitar riffs and pounding drums, yet the only person you'll hear on Evinta is Aaron Stainthorpe singing. I had read previous reviews about this album, yet I still decided to give it a try. If you are just getting into My Dying Bride, I would pass on this one because it will give you the wrong impression of them. Fortunately, they bounced back to normal after this album so we have that going for us.
