I remember this CD well. There was a review on it that said "[Fuel] balances guitar noise and sheer melodic abandon better than any band since Television" (or something close to that). And the basics are there -- huge guitars, a certain amount of screaming (but also some very, very tender singing), and some amazing songwriting.
This is a go-to for me when things are a little dark but I'm in the mood to jam anyway. Saw the band live many times in 95-97 in Seattle and they put on one fine show. Their followup to this ("Surrender you Freak") -- also available here -- is poppier (though still crunchier). Fuel is HEAVY in a good way.
If you want to sample a couple of tracks to see what you think, try Hang Time (fast and a little lighter), Down (slow and really heavy) or Safe by Herself (in between).
