New Edition was formed in 1978 and is comprised of Ricky Bell, Michael Bivins, Bobby Brown, Ronnie DeVoe, and Ralph Tresvant. The R&B group achieved popularity during the 80s and lead way to other boy band movements thereafter. Johnny Gill didn’t come in later on to fill Bobby Brown’s departure for a solo career. The most notable early hits which climbed to no.1 on the R&B chart include “Candy Girl”, “Cool It Now”, and “Mr. Telephone.” “Earth Angel” and “If Isn’t Love” are 2 of my favorites. These 2 songs did not reached no.1, but come close to it at no. 3 and 2.
The band was dismantled in 1990 to pursue their solo careers. Bobby Brown’s solo career achieved success with his multi-platinum album “Don’t Be Cruel.” Ricky Bell, Michael Bivins, Bobby Brown and Ronnie DeVoe remained together to formed Bell Biv DeVoe. Their album “Poison” also went multi-platinum. I can remembered this song being played continuously at house parties and nightclubs of the 90s hip hop scene. Johnny Gill and Ralph both produced self-titled albums. Ralph’s “Sensitivity” song reached no.1 and “Do What I Gotta Do” came in no.2 on the R&B chart. A memorable song from Johnny’s solo album is “Rub You the Right Way.” The song achieve top 20 across various charts.
When they got back together, they produced a song called “I’m Still in Love With You.” This is my favorite all time song from they and I’m still listening to it today. The New Edition Gold is great album and brings all the great songs from the formation to the break up to the reunited timeline of the band. Though not the first R&B band since the Jackson 5’s were, this is a must have for all R&B band lovers of the 80s. The mp3 quality is awesome. Thanks!

Love this album. Grabbed a lot of great hits from group and solo careers but I do wish so more of BBD's songs were on there. Particulary "I Need You". One of my favs!!
