II is a very unique album in general but also in the discography of Majical Cloudz. This is very unlike the material that was tom come after it. And think that leads me to view as an artistic statement that is meant to stand on its own merit. It is basically an ode to creative freedom as well as capturing the feeling of isolation. This album is incredibly raw and vunerabke in that it leaves room for the listener to interpret what they are hearing instead of telling them what it's supposed to be so that they don't feel the need to look into it more deeply. And the fact that Magical Cloudz did not make another album like this shows that they wanted 5 his to stand out as its own piece of art. They didn't need to make more music in this style because they had already accomplished what they meant to. They also have left themselves room to explore thier sonic pallet in the future.
I also love the moment near the end of the album where there is a woman telling a child not to go into the basement ever. I think this captures the point of the album. The band wants to go where they are not supposed to go even if it is frightening or costly to do so. They aren't afriad to tale risks. And the fact that it's near the end of the album I think is meant to say that they already went into the basement despite the warning of what might happen.
It think this was for themselves as much as it was for listeners because it basically says we are willing to try something diffrent no matter what anyone says and you should be to. And because this is from what I can tell thier very first full album, it acts as a way to tell listeners to expect the unexpected.
The other thing that I just love about this album is the kind of lo-fi asthetic that permeates the whole project. And I think it sounds cool but deeper than that, it represent a literal lack of clarity and why it is important to to pat close attention in order to actually gain understanding on what is happening. And this also goes along with the idea that this is meant as an artistic statement to rather than a definitive declaration of the bands overall vision.
