Ian Matthews is a very underrated British singer/songwriter. He is best known for his excellent voice and as a founding member of influential 1970's bands Fairport Convention & Plainsong. Besides all of that, he has a long standing & varied solo career. "Journeys From Gospel Oak" is actually his 3rd solo LP, originally released in 1972. On this particular release, it's remastered and expanded (with live bonus tracks) which makes it a very worthwhile purchase. Ian often covers others material and makes his version better than any others. It is the case here with Jimmy Webb's "Met Her On A Plane", Paul Siebel's "Bride 1945" & Glen D. Hardin's "Things You Gave Me". Backed by the highly able British musicians of Andy Roberts, Timi Donald, Jerry Donohue & Pat Donaldson, "Journeys From Gospel Oak" could possibly be Ian's best solo work. Buy it!!
