Pain Is Love was released on October 2 2001 and is the third album in the rapper's line up. It went triple platinum, but also receive mixed reactions from the critics. The critics argued that the album contains pop/rap like ballads and not the stuff hardcore rap that the rapper is known for. I disagree and really welcome the change. An artist has the choice to shift direction depending on the market. Afterall, they’re there to make a living. In addition, I think this album its peak. The number one debuted album on the Billboard 200 cranked out three singles such as Livin It Up, Always On Time and Down *ss B**ch.
My favorite of the bunch is Always on Time. Nice chorus singing from Ashanti. This is great relaxing song with great acoustics in the background. The video is nicely down with a chilling atmosphere. I used to hear at clubs and radio stations everyday back in 2001. I think the song and much of the album has steered more to a pop/rap genre. Don't get me wrong, Ja Rule is raspy voiced rapper much like his counterpart DMX.
My second favorite is Living It Up. This is a great song to dance to. The chorus sung by Case is quite catchy and you can hear a Stevie Wonder song in the background. Love the video. You can see Pauly Shore lol. When you’re ready to go out for the night, put this in your playlist and off you go for a good time.
This is full of great songs and great for relaxing when nothing to do. Despite the critics, overall I love the album. Get this at CapriceMP3 if you’re into that gangsta stuff. This is the only place I know of that has this album for a great price. Thanks.
