Tracks
I was in high school when this album came out. While my taste in music is more hard rock and heavy metal, I've always enjoyed Styx, especially those albums from the peak of their career during the late 70's and early 80's. Pieces of Eight is probably their most straight ahead rock album. Overall, it's a bit harder than other albums of the era like Grand Illusion or Cornerstone. Great White Hope gets your blood flowing. Blue Collar Man is excellent. Renegade is probably my all time favorite Styx song with its vocal only intro, punchy beat and wailing guitar and keyboards. In Styx, you have a band with 3 singers, great harmonies, solid musicianship and keyboards that are integrated and don't just sound like a layer thrown on top.
