This was the big hit for Wayne, New Jersey's favorite indie band, Fountains of Wayne. A love letter to the mother of the protagonist's girlfriend, it's catchy and funny. It probably became popular as much because it's unique than anything, but it is a fun tune. Perhaps it's more of a novelty song than anything, but often that's what it takes for an invite sing to break through. The b-side, "Trains and Boats and Planes", is not nearly as interesting, but it's certainly a talented band, so it's worth giving a shot if you like the a-side.
