When The Residents went off to make music for their Voice of Midnight project, they decided to record themselves playing all kinds of loose, spontaneous music, as they saw that the direction they took was like the methodology for psychodrama, so it was perfect for expressing the insanity of the main character from the Voice of Midnight album. Afterwards, they took the recordings and made "written music" based on the best segments of their jam sessions.
Some people don't like this album because it's so bizarre and weird, even for The Residents, especially with those high-pitched noises that come up every now and then. Some people love this album for that same reason.
While this isn't a really important release overall, it is a fun little addition to your Residents collection. There's lots of great moments all the way throughout the album. It somehow reminds me of the early-70's Residents in some parts, especially in "Squeaky Wheels" and "The Lonely Lotus".
I also admit that I have listened to this more often than the actual Voice of Midnight. If you don't like that album, you should still give The UGHS! a chance, cause it's certainly more fun to hear than all that Sandman stuff.
