For me, Fleshgod Apocalypse's 2016 album King was a change in direction for the band. They switched from fast and brutal, but nonetheless symphonic, death metal as heard on Labyrinth and Agony, to a more refined, on average slower song structuring. Veleno continues down this route, without giving in on the overall heavyness. I even think the mix is better on this, King was bombastic but missing the heavy basses which were so prevalent on Labyrinth.
A big change for the band was obviously singer and rythm guitar player Tommaso Riccardi leaving the band in 2017. In stead of looking for a replacement, drummer Francesco Paoli took over those duties. So don't worry, he's still on the drums, only for live performances he will be replaced by David Folchitto from Stormlord. In my opinion Francesco has a bit less reach than Tommaso, leaving the vocals sounding a bit more monotone. But there difference isn't that big, fans shouldn't worry.
As said before, this is a continuation in style as found on King, so expect some mid-tempo, piano heavy songs like Monnalisa and Absinthe. Sonds riddles with clean vocals, opera singing and double bass drumming. There is a good mix with fast and heavy songs like Sugar and Pissing on the Score. As a Fleshgod Apocalypse fan this is a must buy, unless you were disappointed in King. Now Worship and Forget!
