You know when they bring in Kevin Shirley to produce something you are in for a treat, and this is no exception. Two current blues legends ain't nothing to sneeze at either. Hooowwwwlllll!!This is good. The raspy, soulful voice of Beth Hart is perfectly complimented by the smooth, soulful playing of Bonamassa's guitar. The sound evokes a smoke filled blues bar packed to the rafters with a crowd holding it's breath waiting for teh next note to fall and not wanting to miss it. All the songs are hand selected covers clearly selected with a personal connection and love for the music. The album kicks off with Ray Charles Sinners Prayer, which moves in to a great version of Tom Waits Chocolate Jesus. Strap yourself in for Your Heart Is As Black As Night by Melody Gardot, For My Friend by Bill Withers, Don’t Explain famously by Billie Holiday, I’d Rather Go Blind and Something’s Got A Hold On Me from the great Etta James. Then it really gets good as the pair covers Well, Well by believe it or not Delaney & Bonnie, bringing the album to a close with Aretha Franklin's Ain’t No Way. Beautiful music from beautiful music, no way to make a wrong turn here, and don't bother looking for a weak moment. Brew a cup of coffee, or grab an ice cold beer just make sure to turn it on, turn it up, and enjoy. Five Stars Plus Plus!
