British Prog Metal band Threshold is back with a new 2017 release (#11), after 3 years from their previous studio effort titled The Journey. This time they treat us for a double CD (although in digital format you cannot tell). This is a first for them in this format. They have again changed lead vocalist with the return of Glynn Morgan who used to front the band more than 15 years ago. His voice is not as appropiate as previous lead singer Damian Wilson, and this is a shame, since many of the tunes are heavy and Wilson's voice sounds stronger for this type of music. There is a diversity of songs being such a long album, over 80 minutes worth, and the best ones are the longer ones, such as "The Man Who Saw Through Time" (an 11 minute + song), "Lost In Translation" (10 + minutes), this was their first release of this album, and a true prog song. It showcases what Threshold is about, good lyrics, solid guitar playing by Karly Groom, interluded by Richard West's Keyboards and Johanne James' strong drumming. Another good song is "Trust The Process" with its guitar oriented harmonies, and the closing song "Swallowed." There is a three part song titled "The Shire" which is spread within the 2 part album. Good production with interesting brief electronic textures and sound effects at the begining of some songs that make this album enjoyable. There are several not so interesting tunes which should have not been included and would have made this a much stronger and shorter album. A must have for Threshold fans.
