Prog lovers delight on the new RPWL album titled "Tales From Outer Space" (2019). The album cover tells much about what the music or story might be: Science Fiction stories. With only 7 songs, these German prog veterans have released their best album to date. A very enjoyable and melodic prog album. This is to be one of the best of this year so far. They have a heavy Pink Floyd influence (they have been playing Pink Floyd covers for a while). Their song "Light Of The World" could have been written for David Gilmour or Pink Floyd to record. The album opens with the song "A New World" with an ambient synth sound which leads to a strong entrance of the rest of the instruments. Very catchy bass line, it has a Pink Floyd vibe to the pre-chorus. Nice melodies and good guitar work. "Welcome to the Freak Show" is next and deals with current world leadership sad situation. "Not Our Place To Be" has an IQ influence. Unfortunately this song does not take off. "What I Really Need" is the weakest song and is the one that lacks motivation. "Give Birth To The Sun" get us back to the prog theme. It has extensive instrumental parts which are reminiscent of 70's prog. The album closes with another strong song ala Pink Floyd: "Far Away From Home". The story ends taking us a different place in space. Nice melodic hooks that will keep you humming to your next destination.
The songs order are in a proper place making the album an enjoyable listen. The album is well mixed and produced. A refreshing surprise to listen to a good prog album in 2019!
