Actually a really disappointing album from Death Cab for Cutie. Maybe it's just because I like their newer stuff, but I was only able to pull four songs out of this album.
Steadier Footing was the first that I was drawn to. But after giving it awhile to grow on me, I can only rate it a 5/10. Most likely since it is only a 1:45 introduction to the album. If they only took their time and extended the song, it could of been something great.
Next was We Laugh Indoors. Definitely the best song off the album. A very interesting song to listen to. It fakes in the beginning that it will eventually pick up, but keeps you listening with interesting guitar sections and a constant snare drum. By the end of the song, Ben Gibbard will have you loving Guenivere all the same has him though.
The third song of choice Why You'd Want To Live Here. This is a hanging song. It can go either way depending on what you're into at the moment. It has an interesting sound, but I think they went in the wrong way with it. Nothing like We Laugh Indoors, but it still has promise.
The last song is the only other legitimate song off of this album other than We Laugh Indoors. Styrofoam Plates has a chilly lyrical combination, and tells a tale that will pull the heart strings. If you're looking for a song to listen to whilst reflecting, this is it. A perfect melody while fading out into your imagination.
In the end, the rest of this album is just so-so. But give the songs I mentioned a listen. You will definitely find one to stock pile in your Death Cab repertoire. Enjoy.
