What a great album once again by Death Cab for Cutie. Really above and beyond typical indie genre music. This album really shows what Death Cab can do for listeners of all areas.
The first song off this album is Bixby Canyon Bridge. A great progression song that Death Cab is known for. Slowly starting off with the description of his trip to the bridge, and then ends with a fantastic instrumental at the end. The interesting thing about this song is that most people switch before they here the amazing lyrics at the end. So make sure you listen all the way through so you don't miss it.
Next is I Will Possess Your Heart. Flagship song for this album, but a little too long for my taste. That's why it doesn't get very many plays in my library. But excellence none the less.
Cath... which is such a good song has one of the best stories Death Cab has ever given us. Such an interesting take on false love, and singing from the third person, really makes this one a classic to listen to. Never gets old.
Talking Bird is probably one of the most underrated Death Cab songs out there. Most people have never heard of this one before. A simple but mesmerizing metaphor played on in this one. It's a slower song, but this is when Death Cab is at their best.
Grapevine Fires, which actually had it's music video nominated for some awards, is another great metaphorical song. Playing to their strengths in this one, they were able to extend the song with perfect instrumentals and indie-chants.
Your New Twin Sized Bed is a personal favorite of mine. What a great title for this song. I have never heard anyone sing about a twin sized bed before, and Death Cab pulled this off beautifully.
Long Division is a new one I just added to my library. An obtusely constructed song that still plays on their original sound. The chorus doesn't do it for me as much as others, but the song as a whole is perfect.
The Ice Is Getting Thinner is the last song. You want to talk about a classic slow song by Death Cab, well this is it. Unbelievably emotional, and perfect guitar riff through the entire song.
All together a great album by Death Cab for Cutie. The other songs not listed are at least worth a listen but did not make my cut. Continue to support Death Cab for Cutie and their music.
