This is a fantastic collection of music! The 5th Dimension is an African-American vocal group formed in the mid 1960's. The group composed of Billy Davis Jr., Lamonte McLamore, Ron Townsend, Florence LaRue & Marilyn McCoo. Their original demos were rejected by Motown, but were later signed by California based Johnny Rivers and his newly opened record label Soul City. In 1967, their group's first giant hit was "Up Up And Away", written by an 'up and coming' young talented songwriter named Jimmy Webb. This song earned 5 Grammy awards. "Stone Soul Picnic" & "Wedding Bell Blues" was the 5th Dimension's other giant hits, both written by another young talented songwriter name Laura Nyro. They also were fortunate enough to be seen on every major TV show back in the late 1960's and early 1970's. "Aquarius/Let The Sunshine In" was taken from the Musical "Hair" and this was also a huge hit for the group. This collection is the best CD out there, if you want all the 5th Dimension you can handle! Another key factor to buy this: a lot of the backing musicians on these recordings are the amazing 'The Wrecking Crew'. A must buy!!
