I had a chance to check this band out live at North Hampton’s Iron Horse Café. Freelance Whales sounds like a band you would see on a college campus; a bunch of friends who found out they enjoy playing music with an eclectic mix of instruments. They have it all from a banjo to an accordion. The music is upbeat and emotional while the lyrics maintain a narrative that traverses the entire album. It feels real and unpolished, like any first album should.
