Aerial Ballet (Japanese Edition)by Nilsson

One of the greatest pop singers of the rock and roll era, Harry Nilsson does it again with this sophomore effort. "Aerial Ballet" is best remembered for the cover of Fred Neill's "Everybody's Talkin'", later made famous in the Academy Award winning movie: Midnight Cowboy. This track does feature a tremendous vocal, without a doubt. Minus "Everybody's Talkin'", the rest of the album are all Nilsson originals, including the original version of "One", a subsequent giant hit for Three Dog Night, as well as later being covered by Aimee Mann for the "Magnolia" soundtrack. To think this song that became such a standard started out when Harry was stuck on the phone listening to a busy signal. Out of that seemingly inconsequential beeping sound came one of rocks enduring classics. These two tracks however do not represent the tone of the rest of the album, which otherwise is a playful, fun, joyous album of sweet little ditties that could be appreciated by any child or adult. His vocal range is stunning, adding scat singing of all types to several of the highlight tracks from "doo doo, da da datta da" to "wah wa wah wah", into a vocal gymnastic style that was truly unique in its time and still has no equal. This is a wonderful album, full of vocal originality never really matched elsewhere and it is a good place to start one's journey to discovering Harry Nilsson's sadly underrated talent.
