Midland, famous for his songs in the wake of the UK house, full of reverb dramatic and epic melodies, is back with "Trace", exploring a new sound rough and swollen with a heavy bass.
It now moves on Graded baby, christening it with the output of a two-track that sounds even more hard and scratchy.
First track of the EP, "Archive 01" is definitely inspired by the bassline-house, the typical voice samples drawn echoed by Midland are shredded into stuttering contagious, the track winds along a line of low edgy LFO which gives easy swing.
Using the same voice synthesis, "Realtime" may perhaps also be a lo-fi version of the previous "Bring Joy," the track that marked the rise of Midland, dark synths, broken, beat in a more standard, but the mood and the use of analog instruments fills the piece giving it texture.
