The Pineapple Thief have delivered, so far, their best album of their career with "Dissolution" (2018 release). Their songs are much more digestable and enjoyable although they still have a dark sad tone to them. The album covers themes of disintegration of our society which causes our dissolution with one another.
"Not Naming Any Names" opens the album with a mellow melancolic short song.
"Try As I Might" brings us to The Pineapple Thief musical territory. Questioning the feelings and emotions that arise in relationships. Their first single and a strong song.
"Threatening War" one of my favorites, starts calmly with the vocals as main instrument and later guitars come in to energize the song. Nice chorus that makes a nice melody. Also a relationship emotional theme.
"Uncovering Your Tracks" begins with a drum loop groove to later enter into a nice vocal lead. Guitar solo has a different sound making it scream with a high frequency distortion. Chorus is also a strong melody.
"Far Below" is another of my favorites. With a guitar alternative style sound in the intro to later give way to the vocals. This song has the strongest chorus, giving a nice moody environment. Odd time sounding guitars in the background make it more enjoyable.
"White Mist" is the longest track with nice time changes uniting different sections into one which makes it one of the outstanding songs. All members shine in this one.
"Shed A Light" closes the album in a positive note, lyricly and musicaly.
Drummer Gavin Harrison shines in this album giving a very good drum performance and song arrangements. There seems to be a certain tone to the album that is heard in several songs that gives it a special signature sound. Those of you who enjoy the album will want it to be longer and have some more songs on it. It leaves you wanting for more. Very good prog release.
