It's been ten years since Fergie's debut solo album, "The Dutchess", so the expectations were running high in the lead up to the release of - appropriately named - "Double Dutchess". Much like her debut effort, this is a hugely diverse collection of songs, taking inspiration from many styles of music and ranging from quirky high-energy pop in the form of "M.I.L.F. $" and "Enchanté (Carine)" to moving ballads like "A Little Work" (which sounds like a follow-up to the 2006 hit "Big Girls Don't Cry"). Fergie has a versatile voice, capable of delivering both attitude and subtle emotion where needed, and it's fun to hear the different ways she uses her voice throughout the course of the album. It's safe to say the expectations have been met with this release. I just hope she doesn't leave it so long next time!
