Released 1n 1984, (was it really that long ago??)Sports spawned four Top Ten singles. All this from a band just a few years old, though many more in the making.
Huey dropped out of Cornell to participate in a Clover in the early 1970s. The went on to play in the San Francisco based American Express. Following limited success the nband changed their name to Huey Lewis & the News in 1980. This group finally developed a following. By the time Sports was released they were ready. It eventually went multi-platinum and was eventually also nominated for a Grammy Award. They made great use of appealing hooks and perfect harmonies making for a good old American rock and roll sound. The album opens with “Heart of Rock and Roll,” which charted at #6, featuring a catchy heartbeat drum opening. Heart and Soul” is next making a #8 charting hit. The Viet-Nam vet song “Walking On A Thin Line” also charted at #8, and the unforgettable “If This Is It” completed the chart toppers going to #6. All in all a solid album custom made for fans of good time rock and roll.
