This Is War is a concept album of electronic and experimental style with lots of vintage synths. The single "This Is War" made its world debut before the release of the album as a soundtrack of Dragon Age: Origins The album was sold by 67,000 copies for the first week of release. It reached #2 on the Billboard Alternative Albums chart and the Digital Albums chart.
