The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band's "Uncle Charlie And His Dog Teddy" is the band's early 1970 release. This LP is probably the band's 5th LP; after going through a lot of member changes; including John McEuen replacing a 'short lived' Jackson Browne and the adding of singer/songwriter/bassist Jimmy Ibbottson. The Lp opens up with the totally infectious "Some Of Shelley's Blues", written by Monkee's Michael Nesmith. This song was a huge hit, although it's song title is never mentioned in the song which made things very confusing to record buyers. This LP also features 3 songs from any upcoming superstar songwriter/vocalist Kenny Loggins. This is where Loggins' "House At Pooh Corner" first appeared on vinyl (before Loggins & Messina were formed) The only thing that could have been improved upon on this LP is the production. It is very un-even at times, making it a hard listen straight through. All and all, this is the first LP onf the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band that led them to a formula, a stable membership of musicians and future success. Buy it!!
